Vesak Day is celebrated by Buddhist around the world and is an annual public holiday in Singapore. Informally, it's called Buddha's birthday. This year, the celebration fell on the 28th of May. Huge crowds will usually assemble at various Buddhist temples around the city. Inside the temples, the monks chant sacred hymns while devotees bath a figurine of Buddha. This year, I decided to visit the Kong Meng San Phor Kark See temple in Bright Hill Road. I've never visited a Buddhist temple on Vesak Day and the devotion shown by many was just awe-inspiring. It was a happy sight seeing families praying together. Below are photos I took at the temple.
I'm female and last year life has begun for me. I turned the ripe age of 40. I love learning new things and in December last year I discovered the wonderful world of photography. I bought my first DSLR, my humble D3000. Now I see things in a whole new light. I've become more focused, like a horse with blinders. I'm meeting a lot of new and interesting people. Photography is helping me conquer my fear of flying because as I feel the compunction to take more photos, I realize I need to travel beyond the confines of my city state. I have fallen in love with photography and there's no turning back. I decided to blog in the hope that there are kindred souls out there with whom my thoughts resonate.
